Skyway 3: More than just a traffic solution

echo adrotate_group(19);

Traffic along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue or EDSA has been a long time problem of Metro Manila and its residents. Yet the recently opened Skyway Stage 3 (or Skyway 3) project is set to change all this by providing a seamless link between Northern and Southern Luzon via Metro Manila.

Built and funded by San Miguel Corporation under the leadership of its President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon S. Ang, the 18km expressway is considered as a game changing infrastructure project that is posed to not only provide a link but benefit Filipinos in numerous ways.

It used to be that travel time from Alabang in Muntinlupa to Balintawak would take roughly 3 hours. And the most convenient way to do so was to pass ever busy EDSA. With Skyway 3, however, traversing the said route will now take just 30 minutes.

Stretching from Buendia in Makati to the Balintawak Toll Plaza along the North Luzon Expressway, Skyway 3 links the Southern part of the Metro to NLEX. The 18-km elevated road likewise connects to Skyway 1 and 2, as well as the soon-to-be-completed Skyway Extension. Once finished, the 38km, 36 access-point elevated highway will realize the long standing dream of seamlessly linking North to South Luzon via the nation’s capital.

Yet how will Juan dela Cruz benefit from all this, you ask?

Arguably the most tangible benefit is easing the horrific traffic, particularly along EDSA. With an estimated 200,000 vehicles passing Skyway 3 each day, around half of EDSA traffic will be reduced.

Moreover, the aforementioned  Alabang to Balintawak travel time of 30 minutes is now possible. Even traversing the route from Susanna Heights in Muntinlupa to Balintawak would take around 45 minutes. And Makati to Buendia? This takes 15 minutes.

All this will greatly benefit productivity as one need not sit in traffic all day. Plus, agriculture , tourism, and other sectors stand a greater chance of growth as they  can now travel from North to South and vice-versa with ease.

All this would not have been possible without the support and cooperation of President Rodrigo Duterte and his economic team. They helped settle numerous Right-of-Way issues to hasten the completion of this world-class infrastructure masterpiece.

Yes, Skyway 3 is poised to truly change the game by easing our countrymen’s travel woes and lead our country to greater economic heights.
